Three Exterior Things To Replace On Your Home

If you are thinking about remodeling your home, you may be thinking about getting certain things replaced on the inside. Maybe it's time to replace your carpeting with hardwood floors. Or you know there are a few windows that definitely need replacing. While you're looking for things to replace, you don't want to forget about the exterior of your home.
Here are three things you may need to replace on the outside.
1. Your Shingles
Shingles are an important part of your roof because they not only protect it from moisture, but they also help to insulate your home, which in turn increases energy efficiency. If you don't want to climb up on your roof to look at your shingles, you can contact a roof inspector to do it for you. Your shingles will have to be replaced if you or the roof inspector notices any of the following:
- They are ripped, dented, or damaged in any way
- They were not installed correctly
- They look bare or have granules missing
If you notice your roof is leaking, this might also be a sign you need to replace your shingles.
2. Your Siding
The siding on your home is important as it also helps to insulate your home along with protecting it from moisture and certain pests, such as termites. It might be time to replace your siding if you notice any of the following:
- The siding looks like it is bubbling or blistering
- The siding is damaged, cracked, or has dry rot
- The siding is loose
There are other reasons for replacing your siding as well, such as you simply want to update the color, or you are tired of staining and painting it and want something that is more low-maintenance.
3. Your Gutter
You may not realize just how important the gutter on your home is, but having one that works well can actually decrease the chances of roof damage. One of the main purposes of a gutter is to keep water off of the roof and away from your home. When it comes to gutter replacement, here are some things to look for:
- Your gutters have cracks in them, even tiny ones
- You have mildew around the foundation of your home
- Your gutters are sagging or pulling away from your home
Besides looking for signs that your gutters need to be replaced, it's also important to keep them free of debris, such as leaves, silt, and animal nests.
